United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Chawton White

Here in North America (not sure if it applies to ROW as well), the "manual" reset instructions only work on MY08s and later, for earlier models the only way to reset the SII is via IDS / dealer diagnostics. Same story for the LR3. I confirmed long ago that the manual reset doesn't work on my 2006, unfortunately. Sad But if you have a MY08 it should. Very Happy

My logic, and I must have read this somewhere, is that the European Block Exemption allows non frachised dealers to do servicing and not break new car warranties (although it can extended warranties (just ask Porsche).

Yes

For non franchised dealers to do the work, they must have a manual way of resetting the service indicator. Or so I thought.....

No, there must be access to the necessary software/diagnostic kit in other words the protocols must be open, eg ODB2, not it must be a "manual" reset.... I think you have misunderstood. As an aside, check eBay for the number of VAG service reset tools....it isn´t unique to LR to not be a simple manual process..... Cheers

The information I posted is actually an extract from an official LR document dated Mar 22, 2007. It might be part of the Workshop Manual, I don't know.
