Petrol Cap

Aplogies if this has been addressed before however couldn't find any other threads.

It seems that the flap covering the petrol cap doesn't actually lock when the car is locked up and anyone could come along and access the tank.

Is this a fult on my RRS ? (Its an '06 2.7TDV6), or is this how it is meant to be ?

Seems a little unsecure Sad

The fuel flap on UK spec vehicles should lock with the central locking button. It sounds like you have a sticking actuator.

It's a trip to the stealers I'm afraid. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Inside the boot there is a flap to manually release the cap - might it be worth 'exercising' this a couple of times to see if it 'resets' - agree dealer prob unless the trip is a pain - may be worth trying first anyhow...

Messing with the cable behind the RH rear quarter trim won't make any difference in this instance. If the actuator has jammed in the open position it will need to be replaced. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. The problem is that the plastic tip at the end of the actuator cable gets chewed up a bit because it has not been aligned with the fuel flap locking clip properly.

If the fuel flap sticks in the locked position, you can sometimes realign the clip by wiggling the cable. You know when you have realigned the cable because the fuel flap springs open. In this instance you have no way of knowing if everything has been re aligned or not. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. I have to wonder then why the US models don't get this same feature...as it exists on practically every other European car here as well. PJPR

Valid point there TB...we are relishing $1.95 / US gallon gas again for 87 and 2.20 for 93...have to enjoy it while we can as the rest of the economy goes down the drain for a while. PJPR
