It's actually not slippery at all, you'd be supprised of the grip.

what do you mean insurance? like if you get in an accident? or do you mean the warranty. Well either way its not an issue, if you get in an accident and have proof of payment for the body kit, then it will be replaced. A body kit does not affect your warranty.

works differently in the UK

If you pl,ace a bodykit on the car, then you MUST inform your insurance company, as their risk increases in the extra cost of the bodykit you are now wanting them to cover, also the desirability of the car to theives etc

The insurance company may say £XXX please or £0.00 it all depends on how the underwriters feeling than day and what targets they are required to meet.

With admiral though, they take a nominal increase in premium (say a 1 off £50) but also any non standard part is then not insured

So, with my wheels, I assume they would only pay out to get the standard wheels put on, or maybe contribute

But if the body work was damaged and needed repairing, would they cover? Would they say a normal body would cost £x to fix, so heres x, or would they say as its non standard, we;re not helping out at all?

If you have not declared modifications in the UK then in the event of an accident or claim the Insurance company can cancel the insurance leaving you with a bill plus prosecution for driving an uninsured car.

The other trick they do with undeclared modifications is work out what the car is worth with the modification. lets say you added £5k of parts to a £45k RRS but only declared it as a standard vehicle ie. £45k. In the event of a claim the insurance company will calculate that you have only insured for 90% of the real vehicle cost and will then only pay 90% of any claim - even if the claim is unrelated to any of the added parts.

Yes you must declare the correct sum to insure and therefore pay the correct premium, otherwise you put yourself at risk of non-payment should a claim arise. It's the same with house contents insurance, Lets say you have a house fire and lose all your contents, if you insured your contents for say £20K but have a more realistic £60k the insurance company is well within it's rights to refuse the claim in it's entirety, why, because you have failed to declare the true sum to insure and pay the correct premium. Is it worth the risk for a few extra pounds on the premium compared with tens of thousands that you might lose in the event of a claim. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Appreciate all of that, and all my mods are declared

However, if you declare a body work mod, it then becomes uninsured anyway, but does that mean if you prang you're bumper, they wont cover it at all, or will only cover it the the value of a standard bumper, or will only pay to putit back to standard?

I had a similar issue once a long time ago on a Hartge converted BMW that I had. Some idiot drove into the back of it whilst I was stood at some lights. The rear end was all pushed out of whack and the rear suspension damaged.... the suspension was part of the Hartge mods and as such wasn't standard, but as I declared the car to be what it was, the insurance covered the cost of replacing the Hartge suspension which was costly and time consuming because there was no stock of them and they had to wait to come off the production line as it were. Knock on costs were the lengthened hire car cost as well - the guy at the insurance company did mention at the time that so many people don't declare aftermarket mods, especially serious ones and they wouldn't have been covered in the scenario. Trouble was of course, that some mods (the Hartge shocks being one) make physical changes to the car structure such that it precludes normal parts from being fitted back anyhow without major rework. As Steve says... it's worth declaring everything so they don't have an easy get-out.

But with admiral, once you notify and pay the additional premium, they then EXCLUDE the mods from their cover?!

What's the point of that? Surely you pay extra for them to cover your mods? I suppose they're suggesting that by having the extra mods you're a higher risk and therefore your premium increases - compounded by the fact they won't cover your mods.... odd attitude, unless I'm missing something Confused
