the preheater infront of the battery and behind the passenger side headlamp is smoking badly and there is a strong smell of diesel can anybody help or know what the problem is..

Are you sure this is not just the exhausted gases now being visible due to a drop in ambient temperature?

On a cold day you should be able to see a plume of smoke under the car from the FBH. L319 D4 HSE

yep its comming from a small pipe on the rhs of the sump at the passinger side which goes right up to a small exhaust box and into this preheater .. Plus it covers the yard in smoke you would think it was on fire!

Problem solved!

not questioning u but it is pretty bad and this is normal. how come it has never been like this before now?

maybe a 'you tube clip' so it can be compared

it is belching out smoke just enough to cover the front of the RR!!

it seems a little OTT to me, possible a diesel/oil leak onto a hot exhaust

Sounds like a trip to the dealer to me, as the ones i have seen just get a wisp of smoke

They can smoke quite dramatically the first few times that are called upon as we head into winter. They work on a thermostat so it's possibly the first time it's cut in this year. If in doubt give it to your dealer for a cold start test.

It's difficult to say 'that's normal' without seeing it, but the first few times it functions can produce an alarming amount of smoke.

I thought that it might be the reason, but was unsure. you should see some of our diggers on a Monday morning! I will give it a couple of days to calm down and if no better will get it checked out.

My last RRS used to smoke quite dramatically - really more than you'd expect but all perfectly OK

started her this morning and there was a faint plum of blue/grey smoke for a short while and then it sleared so all is ok many thanks.. I am heading to the north of Scotland today so was worried that there was a problem. didnt fancy having to take the Mondeo especially as they are prdicting snow!!!!!
