Have a customer who needs mobile web access in their display vehicle (travels the UK) - aswel as allowing users access to the web from the vehicle, their head office would like to access the HD Camera's onboard so I need a static or dynamic IP too.

Not played with any mobile 3G system enough to know whether they are capable of handling this (especially the band with issues).

Any members have any experience of what types hardware I need to look into for this?

Telstra (Australia's BT) claim to have the fastest 3G network in the world at 7.2mbs download. I have used one of the USB 3G cards to access internet and corporate VPN from home, and although not as good as a traditional fixed internet connection, it is usable and even YouTube streaming is acceptable!

You can see some of the 3G USB, modem and router options Telstra have in the link here (click on features). These are made for Telstra by industry standard manufacturers around the world, so should (I assume) be available in other markets where there are 3G networks.

In Australia for Telstra to give you a static IP on a 3G card, modem or router you have you have your own IP WAN, which if you are a small company or individual user would mean a very expensive solution as only big corporates traditionally have these.

Here in Cyprus, I find the new BUSINESS ONLY high speed mobile download service quite quick and reliable.

Ive used T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone and all have the same limitations, when you get a 3G connection they fly. In poor reception areas the lower data speeds are pretty much unusable.

At the moment we are using Vodafone as we moved all our mobile coms to them.

what you have to look out for is the cost per 1MB when going over package allowance.

All our mobile data solutions are with Vodafone too, it's OK, but not stunning and to be fair, we're not asking our mobile apps to be generic internet "kiosks" - we're passing small chunks of data. If your client is looking to have a mobile internet facility for generic, adhoc use it's going to become very expensive as charging is per MB.

at the moment the customer is just looking for a solution in principle - I've done some digging this morning and also discovered that pretty much all Mobile 3G systems have a fair use policy which means streaming IP cameras over the network won't really be an option.

Passed the enquiry onto a third party company at the moment to see what they come up with
