Just had a quote from LR - having to face same decision now - what was your conclusion in the end?

I wouldn't extend - if something major happens LR were very good at goodwill however since the start of 2009 they will only ever give you one goodwill repair compared with a fair few previously. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Surely this is more reason to have a warranty isn't it? If they are cutting down on goodwill repairs, then things could get expensive.....

I think the cost of the extended warranty is too much - best save your 'one goodwill' claim for a biggy! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Speaking about warranties....Ive just bought a 2005 RRS HSE TDV6 and previous owner had extended warranty until May 09. I have a couple of quesions:-

1. I presume this will stay with the car and I can claim on it before May 09 - if so do I need to contact LR to transfer into my name or just keep quiet and let garage ring to make a claim if the time comes?

2. Will LR honour work done under EXTENDED warranty at an indpendent? (I know they cover under the 3 year warranty)

The independent is one that ONLY covers LR's and their mechanics spend 200 hours a year on LR training courses apparently. They say they can do work under the 3 year warranty but just wanted to confirm this sounds right from the LR side of things? (especially as this would be under the extended warranty and not the original 3 year one)

Thank you all - Im still a newbie here (having only owned my car for 4 days) but all help is gratefully received!

Paul

Good questions Paul.

The extended warranty will indeed stay with the car, so even though you have become the new owner, the warranty is tied to the car's VIN so (at a LR dealer's service dept at least) you simply pitch up and have the work done. I'm not sure of how an independent interacts with the warranty scheme I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone else will Thumbs Up
