Battery Charging

I think I know the answer but just want to confirm...

With the ignition off is it possible to charge the battery via one of the 3 power outlets/cigarette lighter sockets, or do I need to direct connect to the battery terminal?. This with either a mains or solar powered charging device?

I asked this the other day.

As the lighter socket is dead when the electrics are turned off and the key removed, you need to use a trickle charger, like Optimate etc, connected directly to the battery terminals.

I just connected mine up this morning.
