No wonder they were smashing the hell out of it!! Probably caused a crack, then when fan got upto full speed, bangggggg!!!!!!

Check under the boot carpet, take the spare wheel out and inspect the compressor - could be a fuse also.
If it is dead you can get a replacement on ebay for £120 and its a easy DIY job to swap it ... |

Is yours a l494 or a l320?
L494 in boot
L320 underneath like you say - easy to do but will need a jack and some axle stands . |
