It's not my car, so don't know how much it cost.
Surprisingly, matt vintyl is not that hard to clean, more and more products are being released especially for matt cars.

You shoudl have drilled the rivert out and knock it through with a punch.
If you have, you're left with a perfet sized hole for no.10 1/2 inch pan head self tapping screws (can find at b&q).

Disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect.
I had this on an MG ZT I used to own.

There are numerous sensors on your engine that will help stop detonation which could cause the dreaded melted piston failure.
