Persistence is the only way. They are designed to come out. Continual sharp tugs and a good pair of gloves to save your knuckles when it suddenly comes out.

I used long 3/8 drive wobble bars to get the awkward top prop bolts at the transfer box end. They took a bit of cracking but the play on the wobble bars allowed ... |

New hose installed, car runs much smoother and responsive now (and less soot out the back as you'd expect), and no error codes appearing.

Sump removal
The sump pan is easy. Lots of 8mm bolts and disconnect the oil temp sensor. Assuming oil has already been drained.
