The shield if it has one is sort of central between the chassis rails covering the tranny pan which is the large finned plastic lump, the linkage is on the driver side of the transmission on mine.

That is the Fuel Tank shield/cover I'm afraid not the Transmission shield, not sure I would remove the bolts unless you have a empty tank or the tank supported
