Price rises in the pipe line???

Was wheel kicking around a couple of dealers today regarding possibly buying a new 90. Rumours are that prices may be about to rise for all orders to be delivered after the end of March............................ the dealers mentioned 1% being rumoured as the average rise Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry A bit surprised that LR can hold it to so little really. So anybody swithering over buying a new RRS should get their order in PDQ if they don't want a price rise between £450 and £700 depending on RRS model. Interestingly LR are offering incentives on FFRR's at the moment but nothing on the RRS. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I think it may be higher as Ford have just announced prices rises for 3rd March for 3 of their models, S-MAX, Galaxy and the new Mondeo. Prices have increased by around £400 and thats on vehicles costing between £14k and £23k. Of course the usual reasons have been stated for the rises. Speed Limits! not where I live!

Oh you lucky, lucky sods !

How I wish for a price increase of £450.00 to £700.00

Over here we are switching to a CO2 emissions based tax system after July 1st.

We pay VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) on new cars, which up until now was based on a percentage of the vehicles Open Market Value. But when that switches to a carbon based scheme after July 1st, it’s going to equate to a price increase on a RRS of somewhere in the region of 7 or 8 grand Shocked

I’ve heard that a FFRR is going up by about 10 grand Shocked

Also, our annual road tax is going to shift from being calculated on engine size, to Co2 emissions. The band that the RRS slots into is going to suffer a Eur 1,000 increase annually Evil or Very Mad

So owning a FL2 / D3 / RRS & FFRR here is going to be a very expensive business after July 1st Big Cry

So while the proposed increase you’re looking at in the UK, is going to hurt, believe me there’s worse that could happen.

I’m not sure, but I think I heard somewhere that after July 1st, Saab & Volvo bio-fuel cars are going to be hit hard too.

At the moment they benefit from a 50% reduction in VRT, but when the new regime comes into force, I think they will have their VRT & tax calculated on the emissions generated if running on Petrol.

Or some such crazy thing Rolling Eyes

So is there anything stopping you from buying and registering the car in UK and then driving it back home? Speed Limits! not where I live!

Belgium 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Buckingham Blue

Umm thats what I do, I bought the RRS in Inverness, a lefthand drive to UK spec but also complying with Belgian laws. I just have to make sure I take it back to the UK every 3 months, after 18months I can import it to Belgium at a lower tax. Thumbs Up Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

If as an Irish Citizen, I’m caught driving a car registered in the UK or any other country, without having an address in the country the car is registered in, it will be confiscated on the spot & I’ll stranded on the roadside !!

The only way of getting the car back will be to clear the car & VRT & possible penalties also.

Also if I were to buy a car in the UK, second hand or new, I have 24 hours after arriving back into Ireland to clear it & pay the VRT. The VRT is calculated on the market value of the car in Ireland, regardless of the price I paid for it in the UK Sad

So given that a RRS 2.7V6 SE currently runs at around 80 grand, the duty to be paid would be quite high. Also the UK SE spec is better than the Irish spec, so the cost of each & every extra such as Sat Nav will be calculated & included in the duty due.

If I do that after 1st July, I’ll pay the new higher VRT & road tax rates, based on emissions.

There’s a friend of mine who is looking at bringing in an Escort Cosworth from the UK, but is going to have to find one, get it in & cleared before the 1st of July, as the emissions on an older car like that would be quite high & consequently he’ll be crucified on the VRT & road tax under the new regime.

Shocked Shocked

And we thought it was bad over here!

So will your mate with the Cossie not get whacked by it at renewal next year? Or is it a one off cost?

I'm still resident in the UK Whistle though I do own property in Belgium...
I looked into getting my MG imported into Belgium and it was going to cost me €3800 tax so... it stays in the UK, The Subaru WRX STi was slightly cheaper at €3500, there are not many ZT260 or STi in Belgium! Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh
