Cyprus 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Heston Blumenthal

Has anyone eaten at his restaurant, The Fat Duck?

We're back in UK in August and coincides with our anniversary.

Found a lovely cottage to rent but before I book it I was wondering whether his restaurant lives up to the hype?

I wouldn't want to go to any restuarant that charges £550 for a ticket to a wine tasting night. It would only be a disappointment and I wouldn't ever feel that I were getting value for money! ST you must have more money than I thought if you can afford that sort of place - are you about to buy a Java RRS with Pink wheels too???

Here is a magic little place that I stay in in Sway in the New Forest http://www.nursescottage.co.uk/ - it's 5 minutes walk from the village railway station and has a very unpretentious menu, superb rooms and is a great place to unwind or to have a special weekend - and you could stay there for a weekend and it wouldn't cost as much as a night at The Fat Duck A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

TDv8 HSE - Stornoway Grey with ebony and straight grain walnut wood-a-like interior with towpack, Tasmods. The best car I have ever owned
Now departed - Giverny Green TDv6SE with Aspen and Parchment interior - nearly the best car I have ever owned
Staying - Epsom Green Defender 90 for playing off road

I haven't personally eaten there (although it is on my list of places to try) but do know a number of people who have. It's an experience by all means, but you get more out of it by being adventurous and choosing the things he is famous for with the unusual flavour combinations.... it is expensive, but it's a 3 Michelin star restaurant: the food is NOT going to be bad.

There's a place for restaurants like this and there's a place for Little Chef too - each have their own merits, but I'd go just for the experience if nothing else. Do you get BBC at home mate? There was a stunning Xmas Heston Blumenthal show on where he basically put together a gourmet meal for some food-loving celebs and some of the ideas he was turning out was nothing short of unbelievable. Thumbs Up

If not, then there's always Le Manoir not too far from there either.... I have been there and can safely say it's the best food/service/experience I have ever had. So much so, I'm planning to go back this year for our 5th anniversary.

Funny how there are no shortage of starred restaurants in that small part of the UK. Ludlow is meant to be a bit like that too I think - that's up Kaine's neck of the woods.

Nice! Thumbs Up

My fave Japanese restaurant was a place called Donzoko in London... down near Liberty's. Always a good sign that it was always full of Japanese people Wink

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Shmoogle, we have Sky here (And electricity and running water too Wink ) so did see that program, plus all his 'In search of perfection' where he recreated classics with his 'Gastronomic alchemy'.
