MY 08.5 VIN No.?

Hi there, what a great site!
Hopefully someone can help me out here- I tried searching but couldn't find anything.

Is it possible to tell from a VIN No. whether or not a car is MY08.5 rather than 08? The VIN is: SALLSAA238A******

Thanks!

I'm sure this is possible... I did have the VIN format somewhere but can't put my hands on it at the mo. I'll see if I can find it.

You should be able to upload .doc files using the same process as for graphics files.

Ah, well you can't enclose the link in IMG tags as it's not an image Wink I've removed them to make it a simple URL - bingo! Thumbs Up

I think I need to update my list though.

I’ve just noticed that the VIN on “Mrs Rupert’s” FL2 has a few different codes, not covered by the chart.

For instance instead of SAL which indicates Land Rover UK, it has SAF ???

Also for the Plant identifier it has H instead of A which is Solihull.

There seems to be a diffrence with the engine code for the FL2 aswell.

I'll do some research & update the list in time.

Hmm... the FL2 aren't built in Solihull, they are built out of Halewood so that explains the H - not sure why you've got SAF though.

Someones nicked the original code - not uncommon for things in Halewood to go missing! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Thanks for that, Rupert. Thumbs Up

I still can't tell if it's 2008 or 2008.5....... maybe from the 6 digit serial no.? don't know if it's safe to post that though.

No, you're right SSD. Your 10th character is 8, which according to key above shows it to be MY08 not 08.5.

One way to tell would be to see if you have the connector for a phone cradle under your front centre armrest. In MY08 cars (with PTI) the connector was still there, in MY08.5 cars it's no longer there.

Or... ring a dealer with the VIN number and get them to confirm? Best not publicise the serial number on here Very Happy

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

If it's MY08.5 it wil have the electrically adjustable steering column. If it has a manual column it will be MY08

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

There is no model year code for 08.5 MY vehicles, they all fall into the 08MY category as far as the vin number goes.

Electronic adjustable steering columns were available as an option on 08MY vehicles so this isn't a sure fire way of telling the difference.

The phone cradle is probably the best give away. Alternatively, do as Shmoogle says and contact a dealer. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

TB, any idea why "Mrs Rupert's" Freelander has SAF instead of SAL as the first three characters of the VIN ??
