Engine System Fault

Just got home from picking up my RRS from it's first service at the stealers and low and behold I have an 'engine system fault' on the panel. Any ideas what it might be?

They had the vehicle for two days just to do a service and sort out the rear parking sensors from seeing my LR tow bar. Beleive it or not, they just lowered it to the next holes, which seems to work, but means it's to low for my trailer. They said that they are contacting LR about the problem and will let me know what the outcome is soon.

Ken have you tried your car again since you got back from your stealer?

The RRS is a strange beast and sometimes these warning lights cure themselves via the onboard self diagnostic program.

Otherwise it is a trip back to your stealer as it sounds like they have induced the fault on your vehicle during the service.

Thanks for the quick reply TB.

Yes, I've just taken it to fill up with diesel, it's still the same. I'll give it and other go tomorrow morning, if not OK then it's off to the stealer. More time wasted.

Ken.
I have had this symptom 4 times in 3 months. The dealer has no idea what may be causing the problem. Neither do LR technical. They initially thought it was the fuel pump module, but its done it since that was replaced. I now have a set of LED lights wired into the wiring loom to held diagnose the problem when it next happens. They have even stripped the car out completely to check for any damage to the loom, but nothing was found. I have complained to the directors office and now have emails from them on a regular basis, but all I want is a working car. Its also posted gearbox, HDC, DSC, and all amber waning lights as well as dropping to the bump stops on the suspension, but again they havent been able to sort it. Its still with the technical dept at LR. Neale

If its just the message and you have reduced power, a quick download of a patch file to the engine control module should cure the problem.

Have they checked the battery is functioning OK? Sounds odd to suggest it I know, but MDP had all sorts of unusual electrical issues with his car until the battery was replaced.

A simple soft reset often sorts this problem out.

Hi Neale,

Sorry to hear about your problems. If it’s of any help this is what happened after my last post.

The next morning still the same problem, so I rang the stealer and was advised to contact LR Assist to see if they could fix it, or if not recover it for delivery to them, also they could arrange for a loan vehicle.

As it was an engine system fault I was advised not to drive it as it could damage the engine.

The LR Assist guy arrived and immediately connected his diagnostic computer. He found 3 corrupt programs relating to the fuel line. Coincidently, I was advised by the stealer and agreed to having the fuel line flushed out whilst being serviced. He reinstated the programs and ‘Hey Presto’ the engine system fault disappeared. Great stuff so I thought.

After LR Assist went that evening I thought I’d give the RRS a short run, just in case. Low and behold after about 6 miles the engine system warning came on again. Rang LR Assist who agreed to come out the next morning 8.00 am. He connected his computer up again and isolated the fault to a Fuel Line Heat Sensor, which he couldn’t repair. He agreed that it was safe for me to drive to my stealer which is only 5 miles away, as they had agreed to look at it straight away.

When I arrived at the stealer the engineer seemed to know what I was talking about and fixed it straight way 15 min.

Since then all is Ok, that is accept the towing hook which is still an on going problem. I contacted LR myself and sent them photo’s of the stealers installation. They are now looking into the problem and have promised to contact me back.

At this point I would like to say that I have no criticism with LR Assist in fact the opposite they were very helpful and courteous.

Sorry my explanation is so long winded, but I hope it’s of help.

I had intermittent problems with faults being diagnosed on starting, first thing in the day. The dealer installed a new higher rated battery and all is now OK - so a new battery may well cure this.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but will I have the same problem if the stealer fits a tow bar for me as I'm thinking of have a towbar fitted to tow a trailer for my bike.
