Fuel economy of a 2.7 v6 diesel RRS

Hi
What sort of mpg should i get on a run.
As im nearly an hour away from the M6 Yesterday I was driving down and then up the M6 (junc 36 to junc 29 and back again) and decided to set the trip computer it was windy but tried it north and south bound and the computer was only averaging 27.5 mpg whilst constantly driving at 70 mph set by cruise control.
I think this is terrible can anybody help.
Steve

Ste,

I average 26-27 during normal driving - long runs like that I will get over 30. Its worth checking your mpg based on usage rather than the read-out, plus maybe worth checking your tyre pressures etc.

My normal motorway runs are around 27-28, but thats because I sometimes go over 70mph - i.e. 71/72mph Whistle

What do you think is terrible about it? That's about the average mpg for a V6 diesel... don't forget that even though it's a diesel engine, it's still pulling around nearly 3 tons of brick-shaped metal Very Happy Be thankful you don't own an SC Wink

Concur with Shmoogle, you have a 2.5 ton vehicle there, so 25-27 does not sound that bad. I have had a few jap rice rockets in my time, a mere 2.0 litre engines and a small family saloon shell and got on average no more than 20 MPG..my previous 2.5 TD5 disco returned about 25 on a long trip...

Sorry to say you need a reality check, it does not sound that bad Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

27 ish is what the LR book said when you bought it Exclamation It might do slightly better when it loosens up.

If you can live with the warranty issues Question , then chipping it should improve the mpg but it will also increase the performance Very Happy , if you can keep your foot off the gas pedal then I managed 33 to 35 with my old tuned TDV6 on long runs, as long as I drove gently.

But I concurr with the others that 27 is very good for a big heavy sport Exclamation TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

Had my TDV6 since 1st December and have covered 2600 miles.
70 mph motorway on cruise control best yet 34.6
Mixed every day driving it drops to 30.5, but I dont drive in heavy traffic at all, and my shortest journey is 16 miles. It makes a diference. Very Happy Enjoying life and spending the kids inheritence

HI Tony 2

Thank you for your Information,
A number of people on here seem to think 27 mpg is OK but i knew other people are getting better mpg. I did approximatly 40 miles at 70 mph on cruise control all the time with tyre pressure at correct pressure only me in the car and re set computer and only got 27 mpg, Also its run in covered 19000 and its already been chipped so going to monitor it closely, Nobody drives more with mpg in mind than me and I get 21 mpg around town and I accept that.
Ste.

Hi VA

20 mpg is that on a run, you must have a lead foot.
