Torque settings for wheel nuts

Now that we have had all of our winter snow here I'm changing over to my winter wheels and tyres this week.........................

Anyway as it looks like I am going to be doing this myself, does anybody know what the torque settings should be for tightening up the wheel nuts so I don't damage the alloys - I don't see it anywhere in the owners manual and never had to change a wheel myself on the last car. Is the torque the same for 19" wheels and 20" wheels? A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Thanks to James at Charles Hurst's and his Techy guys, the torque setting for the nuts on 19" wheels is 103lbs/ft A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

I was using my torgue wrench on the weekend when changing a few of my 20" tyres and the setting in the manual was 140nm.

I'll let you know if the wheels fall off in the next few days!! 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8, Stornoway Grey

As shmoogle has pointed out, make sure you get your ft lbs and Nm's the right way round otherwise they'll be either too tight or more worryingly too loose! Confused James Tayler - General Sales Manager - jamestayler@charleshurstgroup.co.uk

Too tight isn't too much of a problem - too loose and you hear the wheelnuts dropping off and rolling along the road. I followed a friend who was in a Defender that he had just changed the wheels over to MTR's and hadn't done the nuts more than finger tight.............................. just managed to stop him from driving any further in time before he lost all the nuts off one wheel............................we had to walk back along a very busy road trying to collect the nuts that had gone AWOL A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Shocked Shocked

He was lucky to find them... they must fly off even at low speeds.
