TDv6 goes up in flames!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry it wasn't mine Smile

Just been to see the local non-franchise service agent who does work on my Defender and asked how his D3 Tdv6SE was doing and his reply was " It's fried"

As he knows about these things I asked for more detail - the family left home on a Friday afternoon for a trip to the Borders with family in the D3 and threir caravan on the back. Going up a long incline George thought he saw smoke coming out from under the bonnet but had nowhere to pull over off the dual carriageway. Continued to the nearest layby and stopped with flames coming out of the nearside but the engine continued running (so he reckons there was a fault on the fuel return line otherwise the engine would have stopped due to no fuel). He carries a fire extinguisher in the car and also the caravan so put the fire out himself before the Fire brigade arrived, but not before very severe damage was done to the engine and nearside of car, writing it off. He tells me that he is now in dispute with LR as they contend that he should not have extinguished the fire himself and they feel the car is repairable. As a rebuilder and fixer of Landies of all sorts he says otherwise. However LR have agree to exchange the wreck for a new car now provided he pays the difference for the 15k miles that were on the original D3.
This makes me think - is there a problem with high pressure fuel lines on TDv6's regardless of whether they are D3's or Sports? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I'd have thought LR would want to pick over the car with a fine toothed comb in case there is a problem, instead of blaming him for putting a fire out Shocked

Also charging him for mileage on a faulty vehicle isn't really fair Confused Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Have there been any other similar fires reported over on the D3 forums Martin? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Absolutely!! What did they expect him to do? Leave the fire to envelop the entire car and his caravan in the time it took for the fire brigade to turn up?
