United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey
National Campaign....

OK, tell me if this is a litttle sad.....

Once in my younger days I was a biker. It was great, riding around at the weekend. One special thing though, which unless you're a Biker you'll probably not notice, is that every Biker acknowledges another. Be it a little lifting of fingers off the bars, a head nod or a full blown wave, everyone says "hi". It gave me a real sense of being part of the Elite........

I no longer have the bike, but have been driving my RRS with immense pride since Saturday. Every time I go past another I take a quick look to see if they too are looking, whether they too could be a member of this great forum.

I know you guys have the RRS stickers, which are great if being approached from behind (oh er!), but why not lets start saying "hi" to each other? A secret nod.... (OK....its sad, but I needed to get it out of my head!)

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Buckingham Blue

I'm not a biker but was looking to ge a bike a few months ago before a few mate told me i'm mad! Any way i know what your talking about as a few of my mates say the same as you have.

I was in MK about 6 months ago and see the bird in a silver RRS going the other way so i flashed my lights and lifted my hand off the whells see did the same and give me a nice big wave back Very Happy

I was thinking this it will be cool if we had some thing to know if the RRS that has just pass was just one of us? RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

That may work in the UK, here in the US (Houston at least) they think you were crazy and call the Cops ! But it would be great to see a smile and a wave over here as well I get a few but its the GB sticker that does it from fellow Brits Laughing Brit across the Pond Wink

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

The older land rovers seem to get this sort of behaviour , i have owned a few Classic Range Rovers in me time and this did happen. As it did with other series of landrover. I do try to acknowledge other RRS owners but i think the majority are trying to see if their one is better than mine and dont give a Censored about being friendly ( or maybe thats just essex for ya ) Whistle

Funnily enough years ago when I had the RS Turbo Mk1 one would always get a wave or flash of the lights from fellow owners.

So its not a bad idea. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

I'm still lucky to have a bike, which is half the reason I got a TDV6 as I can get my 'fix' on the bike. Regardless, the nodding between bikers still exists and I would say up her in Aberdeenshire you will find 80% respond to some signal, but it does seem to be dropping an becoming more specific, ie tourers dont wave to people they regard as homicidal maniacs (sportsbikes), etc.

I remember that in the early days of the RRS and this forum, some owners could be found acknowledging each other - but I think that has disappeared a little, what with the fact that most of us Brits are miserable and can't be arsed with other people Rolling Eyes

That said, as motorists we often flash each other (with our headlights, that is) to warn of upcoming speed traps etc so we can't all be bad Wink

Don't know if it would work with the RRS, as someone else said, There are just so many of them where I live that they don't have that quircky minority buddy thing going on. When I was a student I used to have a MKIV Triumph Spitfire - that used to generate a lot of response from other drivers of Spits and MG's always very friendly and on the "MANY" occassions that I was broken down at the side of the road fellow classic british sport car drivers would often offer assistance Smile - Oh my god!! Most new motorcycles have their light on all the time, I cant switch mine off and can only choose between low and high beam. There have been instances where bikes have gone over a bump in the road, which leads the oncoming driver to believe he's flashed him, who then proceeds to turn across the oncoming rider. This exact scenario has claimed several riders lives, one being a police rider. Flashing lights can be interpreted in so many ways (speedtrap, accident, etc), but according to the highway code the real meaning is to make another road user aware of your presence.
