LOL!! You really don't know how accurate your observation is there, VA!! I'm on the wagon, these days, but Franc is always quaffing Crichton's Old Ratstrangler or somesuch. Probably explains some of his weird fuel maps, and sequential gearboxes with 1 forward and six reverse gears! (No Italian army jokes, here, Jay!) Rolling with laughter

Suffice to say it produces more power than the standard Supercharged 4.2 even with the FIA restrictor. It runs on Avgas, as do all the top Dakar vehicles.

Interesting. Cornelius, why do they run petrol engines as opposed to diesel. Wouldn't fuel quality be less of an issue particularly in some of the more remote areas they race in?

Wasn't it the Bowler customised Defender that Richard Hammond tested on Top Gear a few years back? It was amazing!! So strong it could be dropped on it's nose from 10ft without any damage - Awesome Car Thumbs Up Infact, I seem to remember that it was the Bowler that Hammond was driving when he blurted out "I am a driving God" much to the amusement and merciless p**s taking of Clarkson & May Laughing Great episode Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Wilko,
Entrants in T1 and T2 have to use an homologated engine. The Wildcat and the Nemesis are intended to be loosely described as Land Rover derivatives, but no more "loosely" than the Mitsu's or Touaregs, except that Bowler nor JE have a budget of 2,000,000 quid! Hence, in the main, the Bowlers run JE Rover-based V8's in the Wildcat and a JE Rover/Jag AJV8 in the Nemesis.

Some Wildcats do, indeed, run a JE Td5 diesel. Both the JE-Rover V8 and the JE AJV8 are 4 litre capacity, there being stringent weight penalties for larger engines (if declared!)

Thus, Rover do not have a diesel capable of touching the Touareg V10, even in 4 litre guise. The BMW X-Raid is a bio diesel, the Mitsu's are petrol.

All fuel is supplied and tested by the organisers and has to comply with "Vehicules Toutes Terraine" FIA standards. Jungle juice gets you chucked out!

Robby Gordon seems to use a gallon a mile in that Hummer! hehe Laughing

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Can't imagine anybody's neighbours appreciating you having one that makes that much engine noise, especially if you live in the likes of leafy Guildford............................ but I'm sure it would put a smile on their faces if you took them out for a spin in one! Like Jay I also fell in,love with it at MPH. And no you cannot fit the body onto a Defender chassis........................ I did ask them at MPH and was nearly laughed off the stand Rolling with laughter
It is now possible to get a 'kit' GRP Freelander body that will fit onto a Defender chassis and that would be almost as much fun as a Bowler or a Nemisis 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hmmm, you can also get a Bugatti T35 plastic kit that fits on a Ford "Pop" chassis Confused

The Nemesis is a superbly engineered space-frame competition vehicle and a great credit to Drew Bowler and his lads.
