I just took delivery of my new 07 RRS yesterday.

After driving home from work today, just 5 miles, I noticed that the engine compartment seemed excessively hot for just a short run. Ever after several hours the hood still was very hot.

Is this normal, or should I be worried?

The fact that you think it "excessive" indicates your past experience is warning you something is wrong. I presume when you arrived home you parked in the shade and it is not just the sun on the engine lid heating things up? I can only suggest checking the engine coolant level and if this is OK speak to your dealer for advice before using the car further. If you do use the car, keep a careful watch on the temperature gauge and stop if it starts to indicate a high temperature.
