2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
SuperCharger vs TDV8

Hi everyone,

Can i ask for some advice please...

I have a TDV6, registered jan 2007.

I sold my RS6 and now i fancy changing the sport, just not got he power i want.

I can either go for a Jan 2006 supercharger @ £39000 with 19000 miles, or do I go for a TDV8, which will cost a good bit more i'm sure??

Basically, how is the SC going to depreciate over the next few years, how will it fair to a TDV8??

Any help appreciated!

SC will continue to get cheaper and cheaper (which is a good thing for used buyers of course), but they're not what you call a good investment. The TDV8 will continue to hold it's value well for some time yet I reckon and of course, you'll get a newer car which will also be cheaper to run. Granted, it will cost you more at the outset but it's where the sensible money is Thumbs Up

I am mr sensible, so I may even check a used M5. Plenty of variety now on the used market. I'm trying to avoid diesel. 2011 Defender X-tech

I was recently on an LR Experience day, which is mainly Off Road, but I did get the chance to Open Up the RRS TDV8 on a remote straight highland road, and believe me it really shifts. The LR Experience instructor said that in his opinion a chipped TDV8 will beat an SC on all levels except that 1st burst from 0 - 20mph. He says from 30 - 60 the Chipped TDV8 wipes the floor with the SC (In his Opinion of course). I have to say, after driving a Non-Chipped TDV8 I can believe what he said quite easily. England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I had a SC and now have a TDV8. The SC was much quicker from 50 mph up, but if you've got a couple of points then this may not be a benefit. The TDV8 seems to pull better out of corners, and where I live it's fairly fast but twisty. The main thing is that driven hard I was getting 11mpg from the SC and under the same type of conditions am getting just over 20mpg so almost double for a small difference in high-speed performance. I find the engine note of the TDV8 is just as exhilarating too.

If you are tying up your own capital then obviously the cheaper car is better, however if you are buying on a PCP where the residule is deferred then you may be surprised how little the difference would be. There are TDV8's on the market for under £50k which is close to a new TDV6 is new with 20" alloys, so that has to represent good value for money.

If you are looking to finance it then speak to Kam as he'll probably be able to suggest something which makes sense to you.

Back to the original question.... If you want and high-performance SUV and to be an outright hooligan then the SC wins hands-down, but if you back off accellerating at 50-60mph (as I do) and you do a few miles then the TDV8 is the way to go.

Thanks for the input.

I now think the TDV8 is a better choice and there is a nice choice of used ones on the market now to investigate.

So if anyone is interested in a perfect V6, give me a shout! Whistle 2011 Defender X-tech
