Ask them if this problem arose during pre-launch testing and if they are knowingly selling cars that are going to develop faults.

I can't believe they're persisting with the "it's a characteristic of the vehicle" excuse......

enzojnior is quite correct. The hydraulic knock which eminates from the DR system is totally different from the wear knock which eminates from worn anti-roll bar bushes and ball joints.

The diagnosis for the DR knock is to rock the steering wheel from side to side violently at 20 mph. If a knock results, then the DR is at fault. The DR fuse should then be removed (see previous posts) and the test repeated. If the knock can still be induced then the problem is likely to be worn anti-roll bar bushes allowing the anti-roll bar to move side to side. If the knock is no longer present then it is the hydraulic system which LR claims to be "a characteristic of the vehicle" BUT IS CLEARLY NOT, AS IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ON EVERY VEHICLE FITTED WITH THE DR.

The anti-roll bar bushes wear extremely quickly, especially if you regularly drive on rough roads eg Ireland or the Isle of Wight. Much has been said about the front ones wearing but the rear also wear. If left unattended both are likely to lead to premature failure of the anti-roll bar itself due to seals leaking - which eventually will come back and haunt LR in terms of warranty claims. Some enterprising LR specialist will probably do LR's job for them and commission a polybush which will stand up to the job.

On a final note. Has anyone thought about a sending a petition letter to Mr Tata on behalf of all of us? For such a boring subject, just look and see how many people have read this topic to date!

Simon.mcdonald I am happy for you to include my name 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

Well folks just got my car back from the Dealer all squeaky clean. Thank you Exclamation Thumbs Up

But I'm afraid not fixed at this stage Exclamation

They followed the latest TSB to the letter and it's still making a racket.

They state that the Ball Joints are knackered. This is after only 4 months from the last time they were replaced Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

It should be noted for 2 out of those 4 months the car hardly moved off my drive because I was in severe pain with my back injury.

LR Technical have now issued instructions to order and fit a new design of Ball Joint. These are apparently on back order. MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

LR - Perhaps it's a good job I haven't found the need to do any off roading especially with flimsy ball joints Exclamation

Anyone with any Tech knowledge out there who would know if there are any potential problems that might arise whilst I continue to drive my only car Question MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

Just picked up my 08 HST after its first 15k service having only covered 11k.

As well as being in for the service she was in for the front end knock (having already had the rollbar bushes replaced 3 months ago) and when I went to pick her up the service manager had a word with me.

He said that the front end knock is associated with the ARC system and LR are aware of this but at this moment in time there is no fix Big Cry He went on to say that when there is a fix this will be a recall Rolling with laughter

When asked about the problem on D3's he said they dont have the same ARC or dont have that system at all so whilst there were some D3's with a knock it was not as bad as on the RRS Exclamation

I aint holding my breath for the fix but I do think that after all this presure LR are at least looking into a fix of some sort Yawn Yawn

My dealer said exaxtly the same when in for its service last month/ Land Rover are aware of the ARC system problem which causes premature bush wear and apparently have 3 different University R&D departments looking at a solution!

He did say if I wanted he would keep replacing the bushes as they fail (or knock) if I want, however as the original was replaced after about 1000 miles and then it started again a couple of thousand later I don't see the point. He assured me that if any secondary damage occurs Land Rover will cover it, and that they will also cover cars that have the fault and are out of warranty.

He was unable to give an indication of when a fix will be found, but said a recall will happen in due course.

TBH, both Exclamation

The trial comes to a close at the end of this week. Yes, its quieter, but it still makes a racket at times.

If I was to give a percentage improvement, I would say 70%.....but there is still no getting away from the fact that it SHOULD NOT knock whatsoever. Big Cry

Update tomorrow. Thumbs Up My Gladiators:

hi folks,im brand new on here and appreciate all your rrs experience, especially on this topic.Ive just bought a january 2006 2.7hse (without dynamic control)from a non franchised dealer and guess what? knocking on front end!!! Warranty is up on end of jan09 so i intend to fire it back to my local main agent now. The noise does sound like a drop link rattle or anti roll bar, chatter type sound on uneven surfaces. Is this knock,be it droplink, bushes or ball joints under warranty at 50k miles?
