Land Rover in US recall
8th November 2005

The US National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Land Rover is recalling about 2,000 SUVs because of a possible defect in the automatic transmission parking guide plate.

The potential problem is that ‘park’ may not engage when the driver moves the vehicle’s lever into park, even though all indicators show that the vehicle is in park. As a result, if the vehicle were parked on sloping ground without the parking brake engaged, it could roll away.

The recall affects 2006 Land Rover LR3, the Land Rover/Range Rover, and the Land Rover/ Range Rover Sport and is expected to begin on November 30, 2005.

I take it that this recall doesn't apply in the UK? Different manufacturing process maybe? Bit of a worry, that...

Shmoogle, you could always ask your dealer to look into it at the 1st service, if it is a serious problem here then LR will tell you to take your car along to the dealer ASAP using the DVLA database of cars.

Even though all the Landies I have owned, except my Defender, have been automatics I NEVER EVER park without engaging the parking brake, even on the flat.
I imagine that if you parked without engaging it and the car rolled into another vehicle your insurnace company would not look too favourably on your claim........ parking without due care and attention?  2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Might do that, Tim... I also am in the habit of applying the handbrake when parking the car, it's good practice even if you do drive an auto. I know for a fact that my car doesn't roll when in P so I guess I'm OK on that score right now, but then we don't know the specifics of how its manifested.
