Coolant leak

I’ve been topping up the car with coolant for the last week or so, about 500ml per day! Finally, made it to the garage who found a pinhole in the radiator. It’s on the fan side rather than something going through the radiator itself.
Sigh…more expense and Land Rover have them on back order rather than in stock!

Advance Factors have the Nissens one listed at half the price of a genuine L/R one.

Yup! The garage is ordering a Nissens radiator for me. Should all be fixed in the next couple of days.

Finally got around to changing the radiator. I’m now stuck at the first hurdle of trying to remove the fan. It is well and truly stuck; however, someone said it’s reverse thread.

Have I been trying to tighten it instead of loosening it? Has anyone removed their fan recently?

yeah it's the worse part of the job if it's not been off for years.

Leave the belt on.
You need a tool to hold the thing.

Then put a spanner on the nut and give it a sharp blow towards the coolant tank

Got the tools. One to hold the 3 bolts of the water pump and the other to undo the fan itself. It is so stuck on. Smacked it with a hammer and also rocked it with my full body weight. I might have to warm it up with a blow-torch but I don’t really want to do that due to possible damage.

The tool to hold the 3 bolts keeps falling off. I think I might try and not use it but wedge the bolts with a long pry bar so I can just concentrate on undoing the fan.

I’ve stopped for today but will let you all know how I get on tomorrow. I’ll try and remember to take a picture or two as well.

Just to throw it out there, you know it’s left hand thread, right?

I use the fan wrench and smack it with a hammer almost straight down, basically a glancing blow that deflects the wrench to the right. This has the effect of jarring the threads to help loosen them up. Never used anything to hold it, just a few whacks with the hammer usually pops them off. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

I didn’t know whether if it’s a left hand thread or not. Thank you for confirming that. I tried to use the spanners both left and right to no avail. I will try the hammer method tomorrow.
