Under temprature?

When I'm towing my caravan I've started to monitor temps from obd to my phone on dashboard. On a 40 mile tow with a few good long uphill climbs inc one at 12% the coolant only got as hi as 85 then dropped back into the 70s on the level. Oil temp remained around 60 throughout the journey. Transmission was always about 10 bellow the coolant temp. The fan does it's normal 30 second roar just after starting from cold and cuts in now and again when driving. Are these temps lower than should be expected and if so what would be most likely cause, thermostat or sensor or something else? 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model

Yes your thermostat is stuck open. Being a jag xk8 owner I am phobic about the temp as a major overheat wrecks the engine . My 320 runs at about 88 drops to 86 on occasions and goes to 90 on others.
You have also told me what that terrific woosh is during the first few yards !!
At present I have left the bash plate off below the engine to allow better flow through the radiator. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Many thanks

You can only display engine oil temp if there is a sensor in the engine oil and I dont think that is the case. The best you will do is an accurate engine water temperature via a P10 HUD for £30 ..check on ebay Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

I use my phone screen to display the temps and a few other things. I don't have the skills to get get the signals onto the screen or dash though. There is an engine oil temp sensor along with a coolant and transmission temp sensor. 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model

Oil temp started to show random temps like minus 40 up to plus 60 also started giving a fault code. Fitted a new sensor and now it tracks the coolant temp fairly closely. 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 S Poverty model
