Autobiography Rear Bumper Removal

Eh up all,

On my list of things to sort is a respray of the rear bumper, it’s got various marks and scratches on the loading area and bumper edge, I’ve DA polished it and it’s not cut back enough so respray it is.

Whilst it’s of ill look at doing front discs and pads and maybe paint calipers, but I’ll posy a separate thread on that. Thumbs Up

My questions are:-

Has anyone got full instructions l understand access to some bolts is to remove the plastic trim that sits on the bumper ?
Any other tricks /pointers / advice on access to fittings
Are the bumper edges that sit into the sides a clip/press fit ( I hate these as usually a pig to get off) Big Cry
Is it a two man job
Is it easy to remove the silver plastic inserts
Any replacement parts I should get in advance clips, screws etc

Watched the powerfulluk videos ( very useful) so have half an idea on the job, but would rather get a “real life” overview as well where stuff actually goes wrong and breaks or is rusted on 🤔🤬

All help appreciated on this one - might take me a week to sort these bits plus need a bit of good weather

Will post some pics up of progress

Many thanks in advance on this one.

Cheers all Thumbs Up

Basically same principle for the A/B bumpers, can be done with one person without to much trouble.

Eh up,

Spot on that - Thumbs Up

I’m happy it’s as I thought - really not chuffed about the side clips on the top lip of the bumper to rear quarter panel I ALWAYS struggle with these.

Blo88dy things always seem to snap the piece on the bumper so renders it useless 🤨

Will try a pry tool and heat to see if it helps 🤔

job for the weekend if it’s dry ish.

Cheers for all the help so far .

The main pain on mine was the mud flap things. The screws were rusted. Needed the wheels removing to get the bolts out. (easier to do that to start with if there is no hint of the screws turning).

Eh up all,

Success Thumbs Up

Nowt broke and came unclipped much easer than my x5

Points to note for anyone in the future -

I did all the screws underneath first
Mudflaps were a sod
Top under scuff plate were not bolts but 4 x push fit plastic clips holding bumper on Shocked
You must take both rear lights out to remove the bumper- I thought you could leave them in

Couple of shots of the rear crossmember, not in bad nick really. Just threw some rust converter on it and will top with stonechip

Now for wet sanding ☹️

Thanks again to everyone who helped

Hope the above notes assist someone in the future

Cheers Thumbs Up

Left light is important to remove due to park sensor loom connector

Clips along the top is standard.

Buy yourself a pack of the push in clips spare, they are the same ones that hold the wheel arch liners in place and a few other bit's, reckon same style clips must have been use on every Land Rover ever built. Laughing

While you have the bumper off might be ideal time to fit tow-bar harness if you are likely to need a tow-bar, save taking bumper off again. Just make sure you buy the right kit for the MY12/13 cars not the earlier one's.

Cheers

Eh up

Col - thanks for the tips - have got a box of spare clips from other motors so will have a rummage

No tow bar needed for me so that saves a job

Starting to flat down Tomorrow if I get back in time

Will keep thread updated - I’m just hoping for dry warm weather for spraying - 2024 looks good 😳

Cheers all

Eh up all,

Promised I would keep this thread updated

Cleaned and rust proofed rear bumper whilst it was off.

Sorry no pics of spraying as keep phone out of the way of the overspray and mist Rolling with laughter

Anyway for a home mechanic I’m chuffed Very Happy with outcome. A few specs of contamination but overall even base coat and clear coat with no orange peel Thumbs Up

Given I’m chuffed with rear front looks like poor relation now - might see if I can do this too weather depending

Thanks for everyone help on this Thumbs Up
