Front door won't open unless put hand in handle

Car had front passenger door lock replaced as it wouldn't lock by an Indy.
Then on way back wife put window down and we heard a clunking, cracking noise briefly but then went down and back up. Tried again and no noise

When got home, she couldn't open the door using the latch. I tried pressing the unlock on fob and drivers side unlock button, but to no avail. The unlock lock part to latch seems stiff and doesn't move when press any unlock way.

Walked round and couldn't open the door from outside either.

Upshot is only way to open the door now is to have key fob next to door handles outside, put hand inside handle, hear a click and then you can open it from outside, but still not inside

Any help please 🙏

Garage have changed the locking system but still same but I'm sure it's the latch inside as heard crunch when window lowered and was able to open door inside and out before lock changed and window put down

Sounds a bit like the release cable from from the internal handle to the latch may have snapped, disconnected somehow or not refitted correctly when lock changed, not sure if the window linkage could catch the cable in someway when it went down if the cable had not been fitted/secured correctly, only a suggestion though, would need to remove door trim panel to have a look.

Cheers

It it doesn't unlock with the key fob, but unlocks with the Keyless system, then its more than likely a faulty latch

Was it a genuine replacement, or aftermarket ?

Appreciate the reply Disco_Mikey.

The lock was a genuine part from Stradstone. They never changed the latch.
Could those of got damaged when the window was lowered ? If say the garage left a wire loose etc from when they did the new lock as it made an awful cracking noise when window went down?

They seem to think it's electrical but after hearing that crunching noise When we lowered window 1st time, after having lock changed, I'm sure it's something manual if you get me like what you said.

The internal latch is alot tighter than all other and internal lock button won't move if you press unlock and even manually stiff and does nothing 😑

The internal release lever is connected to the latch by a short bowden cable not a electrical cable, bit like a very short pushbike brake cable for want of a better description.

Thanks. Is that something I could look at ? And do you need to take whole door unit off, similar to what need to do ro replace the lock unit

You will need to remove the door trim panel to get to it, not the whole door though Laughing
