Front diff rebuild - DIY option - general consensus?

Hi,

I have searched the forum for the general consensus and thinking about a front-end diff rebuild using a complete Timken rebuild kit but did not find much at all. The front diff is making a "whouum-whouum-whouum" and needs to be changed or repaired. I would like to rebuild the diff using a quality kit part as I can't afford a new exorbitantly priced off the shelf LR rebuilt unit.
What is the general thinking on this? Is this a false economy or a good way of repairing the front diff.
The vehicle is a RRS, HSE, L320, 2009, 3.6 TDV8, 209K kms on the clock.
I have a diff and gear specialist that can rebuild the unit and has the tools to set preload, correct torques and so on.
I am assuming that unless the gears and teeth are shot, then it needs to be thrown out but if it's a failed bearing, then it makes sense to rebuild to the original factory spec.
Has anyone had any good or bad experiences?
Thanks.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

If you have access to a specialist then why not do the rebuild? The bearing a seal kits are available so as long as the gears are ok it should be a good result. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
