L494 colour coding door trim and bumper corners

Hi, I’m new here, so be gentle. I’ve just bought my first RRS from a main dealer at the weekend, having had Merc’s for the past 10 years. Loving it so far and I’ve added a few bits already.
It’s Yulong white. I’ve had the silver 21” alloys changed to gloss black. I’ve added the black pack, (front rear tow panels, rear door black strip, front fogs and front grill).
All looks good in my eyes apart from the lower door trim and bumper corners being in matt black. The factory option wasn’t ticked at birth.

I’ve asked a couple of body shops that I know about colouring them white. One of them said it was a big job with having to sand them down, prime and colour, £800.
The other and a friend of the family wouldn’t touch them, saying that they would always be susceptible to chipping and peeling if they were sprayed over. Didn’t want to put his name to it.

Basically has anybody had this done.
Can you buy the parts from JLR colour coded already or smooth and ready to spray.
Or should I just keep it as it is.

I’ve added a couple of photos. My car before I added the black pack tonight and a car similar to what I’m wanting.

Thanks

You used to be able able to buy the trims for L/R either finished in the unpainted black, or finished in primer ready for spraying to body colour, you cannot buy them ready colour coded from L/R. If the original ones are prepared and primed with correct primer by the bodyshop I see no reason why there should be any problem with colour coding the originals. Personally I hate white cars with black wheels, however saying that the white does looks so much better with the trims colour coded.

Cheers
Col

Cheers Col. the painting side of things, I had the same thought. If they prep the trims correctly, it shouldn’t peel off or chip. I’m just thinking he couldn’t be bothered with the job. But £800 with the other company seems excessive, I’m out of touch with prices though.

I might get a third opinion tomorrow and take it to another body shop.

How about these from a forum member, could have them colour coded white and fit yourself might save a few pounds, easy enough to fit, just need a few new clips.

I presume these are just the same as mine. They would need sanding and priming first. If they were primed I would definitely be interested.
I get that it might be easier just taking them to a body shop but I’d still need the 4 corner bumper pieces as well.
I’ve actually seen a full set of door trims on eBay, OEM but primed at £150.

Hi mate
Just come across this post, I’m in a very similar situation as you sound like are/was. I’m about to get into a new RRS which I didn’t spec and thus I need to make a few cosmetic changes. Primarily I need to colour code the lower black trim and possibly add a black pack. Can I ask how you got on colour coding your trim and regarding the black pack which you added, did you go aftermarket or oem?

I managed to source genuine parts for everything I needed on eBay.
Luckily somebody was selling a used but mint condition Black pack from a car they were selling. Really easy to fit.
As for the colour coding, I again sourced genuine parts on eBay. This time brand new and already primed and they are at the body shop as I type. They’re being painted and the car will go in next week for them to be fitted.
Saved a fortune..
