2007 tdv8 oil recommendations

I’m sure it’s been asked before but what engine oils best for a 2007 tdv8, it’s going to be a between services oil change so was going to suck the oil out of the dipstick and wait till the full service to change the filter

For the TDV8 5W-30 WSS-M2C913-C the spec you need. I've been using Shell Helix.

Personally I would always drain the oil from the sump rather than try the suck out the top approach on the TDV8 (which I think is more relevant to the later 3.0 engines). Don't forget to purchase two new sump plugs (circa £2/ea) as most filter kits only come with the one and even though only a relatively small amount drains from the secondary one I always drop both plugs including my interim oil changes to avoid any sludge build up. I also change the filter every time (6k/6months) as it can only be a good thing, especially as the filter is only a tenner and you'll be spending at least £40 on oil!

You'll need 9.5 litres but I generally refill with 9 then run the engine for a minute or two then top up as per the dipstick. 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......
2005 Cayenne S - handling defied physics and what a sound, so sod the mpg!
1995 Disco TDI- surprisingly reliable, shame about the peeling dash & other trim
Lots of other non 4X4's in between times.........

Lots of people with D3 2.7 cars saying 5W 40 C3 is now better, and to change it every 6K to 7.5K to ensure bearings don't go early.

Lots of people saying 5W40 is better, with no testing or technical information, other than a higher HTHS rating (which is largely irrelevant due to the temperatures involved)

JLR, Peugeot, Citroen and Ford all state 5W30...

Mikey,

Would Quantum Syntra-Z 5w30 be ok to use with a 3.6 tdv8. I read the spec for C1 which seems to be for dpf models.

Many thanks
