It might.
If you get the compressor running, start the car straight away and see if it will raise.

This won't work.

It sounds as though the compressor is FUBAR. Just another reason why I won't deal with refurb compressors Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, just to confirm though Mikey, I've replaced the old compressor that I refurbed with a brand new compressor on it and the problem is the same.

A cheap Chinese copy, or a genuine Hitachi?

this is what diagnostic machines aren't the only tool required.

A non operating compressor would result in low pressure in the tank, wouldn't it ?

Yep, thats what I think too Andy. I'm 99% sure there are no leaks in the system as I've already raised it (when I started having the original problem, removed the fuse and left for 2 weeks. It didn't drop at all.

Whilst the compressor has stopped functioning it's dropped slowly (not all the way to bump stops yet). I guess this is down to self levelling. Plus removing the air lines to replace the compressor loses a little pressure, perhaps negligable, but you do ge tthe hisss of air as the pipe is disconnnected.

The original problem started months ago, and was the day after the car had a good wash. I've found parking sensors have given up after a good soaking before, so have a gut feel that it's corroded wiring somewhere.

If I can't find the fault easily it will be in to the garage when my mechanic is back.

I completely agree with your comment though about diagnostic machines. They don't always pinpoint the problem, and the experience here is sometimes much more valuable.

I've had faulty Dunlop compressors out the box...

You need to check you are getting 12v at the compressor, a good earth too, and that the compressor will run when given 12v. Only need to be for a few seconds to make sure the motor runs Thumbs Up j

sure AMK's too....but at the moment I'm thinking its a long shot.

I got some wires today so will hopefully now be able to test it on a battery. Probably find the refurb one was fine too Laughing

Any advice on how to trace the earth back?

Your compressor guide was a fantastic help by the way Mikey, many thanks for the help you give!
