Buy a key from a dealer or fleabay and then get it programmed to match your car. Probably looking at £150 odd quid all done, maybe a touch more.

Its really not a big deal anymore, I've bought cars in the past with only 1 key usually costs around £120 to get a fob and have it programmed.

Get a new key & when they program the new key & original key then any other keys that anyone have for your car will not open it by remote, they will how ever be able to open it manually but it will not start as the imobiliser is re-programed.

New kEY??

Hi All,

Am i right in saying that you cannot re programme a used key fob from a different car to your vehicle....
There are several for sale on Ebay that state you just need to have it reprogrammed, but i have read on these forums that this cannot be done.... which is it ?? anyone succesfully reprogrammed a second user keyfob??

Dealers can only program a key one time. Once it's been programmed, a dealer can't reprogram it, so if you come to them with a used key fob, they'll send you away. There are a number of programmers that can program a used key. I bought a used key fob for my 2010 RRS on eBay for US$36.50 and had it programmed by a local independant Land Rover service shop. The programmer they use is made by a company in the UK called AutoLogic (www.autologic.com). They have users all over the world, so finding one in your area shouldn't be a problem. There are other programmers that work in a similar manner, such as Faultmate or WIGGS, but I don't have any first hand experience with these units.

Congratulations! Yours is the first report of a successful reprogramming of a used RRS/D3 that I've seen. Could you find out the version of AutoLogic that achieved this triumph?

I had this done about six months ago. I contacted Autologic and asked them which of their customers in my area had software for a 2010 RRS. Not many shops had the appropriate software update because Autologic customers have to pay for updates and since 2010 RRS' are still under warranty, not many can justify the expense. They did; however, give me three or four names of service shops with the correct software and I picked one. The service shop had no idea how to program a key fob, so they had to be "educated" by Autologic prior to my appointment. It's my understanding that the Autologic programmer's ability to program a key fob depends upon having the appropriate software update. If you contact Autologic, they will tell you who in your area has the ability to program a key fob.

just to add my bit, ive just got a new key, as supplied by my local independent, he charged me nothing for the programming, just the £98.98 + vat it cost from Landrover, i asked him about a used key, he said by the time you get a new key cut, and programmed, it will cost about the same, as the independent will charge you for the labour time it takes to programme the key, a new one takes 5 minutes, a used one, could take upto 30 minutes, as they first have to remove the old code, and that sometimes doesnt work, so they have to do it all again, its a bit of a ball ache to do, so spend £120 on a new fob, or spend £20 on a 2nd hand fob from ebay, spend another £20 getting a new key for it cut, if you can find somewhere, spend about an hour making new key fit the new 2nd hand key fob, then get charged £50 for re-programming, its a no brainer really. 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

If I could also add..............

If you get a dealer to reprogram a new key then they can also reprogram the existing key to a new code (arrange with them) so that both keys run a new code. This means that should the old key resurface then the worst it can do is open the door via the emergency lock on the passenger door.

If a key is programmed to the same code as the old ones then you run the risk of someone being able to open up and drive away.

James Thumbs Up
