FYI:

These guys are the East Midlands area approved body shop people, and are the guys who will quote on a job at your dealer, but who will actually do the work:

Out of interest, assuming these guys are an independent bodyshop, is it any cheaper to have them quote you directly to do the same piece of work as opposed to via the dealer? Is there anything they'd do differently to show you'd had an "approved" piece of bodywork done?

I was asking myself the same question, but what they did tell me was that if you have a dent like me and get them to do the work via the Landrover dealer it stacks up with your warranty, whereas if you had it done on the sly (perhaps elsewhere) and it became an issue in the future, your warranty on the said piece of bodywork would be null and void.

I reckon if they DID quote seperately the saving would be marginal, and perhaps not worth the potential risk factor in the future. L319 D4 HSE

Agree with you to some extent, but think about how long you actually keep a car? Coupled with where the dent is ( or any dent/work ) get the best quote possible that you are comfortable with ( cost/quality ) , beacause they are not going to give you a penny more or less when it comes to time to swap or trade in. Also I would expect to have some sort of warranty on any work carried out by whoever.

MDP,

I agree to most extent, however as it's my first brand new car and I cherish it so much I want to ensure everything is 'just right' in spite of the damage I have had.

Being an authorised body shop they use paint from the factory and if there is ANY slight doubt over the work I can just keep going back to the dealer until it is sorted properly. The backing of Landrover in there has to have SOME benefit.

I know I could get a slightly cheaper quote somewhere but I would not feel happy or comfortable about it afterwards, I'd always have a nagging doubt the quality was not so good you know. After spending £59,000 I am not prepared to take a single risk right now. L319 D4 HSE

I think from my point of view, if the dealer had quoted x pounds and the very same bodyshop were quoting considerably less, I'd be making enquiries as to why - if the dealer is applying a considerable margin to bodyshop work then I'd push for it to be discounted. That way you'd still get your warranty adhered to and also gain back a few quid for the pot.

Anyhow, all academic as it sounds like in your scenario, RRUK, that you'd not be saving much money regardless. Also appreciate that you probably cherish your car a lot more than some of the rest of us, which is certainly no bad thing. So is it all booked in and ready to go? Good luck with it.

Cheers
