about to buy tdv8, any advice?

Hi all,
Just joined as I'm looking at a TDV8 tomorrow and if all is good I hope to drive it away. Its a 2007 hse with 95k miles, FLRSH, I think its a basic model, is there anything i should be looking out for?common faults etc? do the 3.6 tdv8's have cambelt? when should it be changed?

I plan to have a full HST kit put on by the end of the week as well as some 22" tiger alloys or kahns if i find some at a good price? anyone selling the kit or wheels?

And last of all, told it doesnt have TV, how hard it it too fit?
thanks in advance
Akiff

All TDV8's are HSE spec iirc

Digital TV is circa £800 done properly

2nd hand HST kits are like hen's teeth but 3-4k will get a new one from a supplier (sponsor Whistle )

Tigers are nice, but the supersports or 22" stormers look better on the HST imho RRS gone

Faults to check for:

Parking brake fault
Check the suspension goes up and down on request (no pause or errors)
Drive the car gently and check the autobox is smooth and not jerky

service history obviously

It'll probably knock on the front end (they all do a bit Laughing ) but check the knock is not a series of judders when changing direction...this is a new dynamic roll bar at circa £1k Shocked RRS gone

hi mate i have just bought a v8 hse with full body 32000 miles kit had tdv6 very flat to a v8 .
95k on the clock is a bit high for me if you dont mind me asking how much is the car ?
i would not pay no more than 25000 as at 95k you will have problems not just landrover any car at that milage.

If a car has been well looked after, 95K is nothing these days. If it's done that many miles in 4 years, you can pretty much guarantee that it's been done at a reasonable speed on the motorway - nice and warm with no real stresses. I'd take that over a 20K mile car that's only done the school run for 4 years any day of the week.

IIRC the 105k service is a biggie including a timing belt change. Might want to start looking around price wise as it sounds like the mileage you do you'll be there in a couple of months. Also try not to grin at other drivers like your demented. Took me about a year to realise I was doing this every time I was in the thing I was jusrt that happy. Enjoy. RRS TDV8 (loving it)

TDv8's dont have timing belts they have timing chains, which dont need replacing.

IMHO they are the best engines ever fitted to LR products and mine has now done 85,000 miles with only one problem. That was the failure of one of the turbo's which was quite expensive to fix.

My advice is to avoid a TDv8 which has been chipped as that puts the turbos under strain which can shorten their service lives. But once you have lived with a TDv8 for a little while, any other engine feels a poor substitute. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I own a 3.6 TDV8 RR sport now at 156,000 miles. Main issues I have had was alternator at 80,000 miles (£600 at dealer) air compressor at 100,000 miles (fixed myself using kit on ebay for £60) and then both turbos went at 135,000 miles. Found a great company in Birmingham called "Best Turbos" who replaced both with reconditioned units for £2.5k. I also had a broken exhaust manifold stud that causing a whistling sound that they fixed along with the turbos). They recommend changing the engine oil every 6k which I have done ever since. I bet if you had done this from new the turbos would not have gone. I service the car myself and it is much cheaper than using a dealer. Found a local guy that rents out a car ramp that makes this easy!

Holy thread revival, Bat Man! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
