United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Alaska White
Range Rover sport poor acceleration

Hi all new to the forum. I recently bought a Range Rover sport tdv6 2008. Noticed on the test drive it was a little slow to respond. Coming home down the motorway it was smoking quite a bit out the back. Seemed ok for a week but now I have a problem with pulling off. It literally pulls off at a snails pace and then eventually takes off. I found a split in the turbo hose and replaced that one and thought I’d cured it but unfortunately no.
My research shows maybe egr valves. Being a 2008 I don’t think I can blank them off, help or advise here would be great. If I can’t then maybe I’ll replace them. Any advice or pointers please, only had the car a couple weeks, absolutely love it but I’m gutted

May be worth adding.

My 2012 was smoking a little when I bought it and found it very frustrating setting off,. I put a bottle of Wynn's extreme clean 3 in half a tank, then took it for a good run. It dropped. Huge amount of black on an Audi. But it made a massive difference. I don't have any more smoke at all and the power increased massively. it's worth a punt for £13.
It appears the injectors, and other bits were gunked. MY12 RRS HSE

you can certainly blank them as a test to see if it is EGR related.

Other thing is turbo actuator rod

Thanks for the replies, I will get some of that Wynn’s and chuck it in nothing to lose. The actuator on my turbo is moving ok as far as I can see.

Turbo? Or Turbos? The TDV8 has 2 so if the turbo rod is moving fine on yours you may want to check the other one if you haven't. 2012 5.0 SC AB

He's got an early TDV6 so single turbo. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Sticky turbo actuator rod will cause that. You can get at it from top or bottom. From top its battery and battery tray out; from underneath you can take the heatshield off to see it. You should be able to move it back and forth with ease (about an inch travel). If not, it is seized and wants lubricating and working back and forth until free.

Thanks for the reply, the actuator rod is what controls the wastegate. Is it easier to get at with the battery out than through the wheel arch thanks in advance

Even though I can hear it, is it still possible it’s not moving

The egrs also make a noise at similar times.

Actually if the rod is stuck, it is normally accompanied by the message ‘Engine System Fault’ on the dash, that keeps flashing up every 20 seconds or so. If you can hear it and you don’t have that fault on the dash, chances are it isn’t that. Induction leak somewhere. And it is easier to get at through the wheel arch

All doom and gloom for my range, I took it out this morning and she started smoking. Then the cab started to fill with smoke. I pulled over and the manifold on the right hand side had holes blown in it and it was smoking out of them. Called recovery and the guy said he’d seen it quite often. He told me the egr on that side was faulty and it causes intense heat. The car starts and ticks over fine so hopefully not too much damage. Started taking of the intake manifold which is a nightmare job so far. Intend to replace it along with both egr valves and pray the car will be ok. 2 weeks of ownership, not the best start
