United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 S Java Black
TDV8 Turbo

Well I finally got the passenger side turbo out of my 2008 TDV8 with body on.

The exhaust side impellor is seized and the air impellor moves freely but off centre, this impellor is pretty damaged.

the intercooler pipe was full of oil which would explain the white smoke when it suddenly failed.

To be honest, I have probably left it to long between oil changes which would explain the failure.

I have been advised by a turbo specialist that they do not recondition these units as they are hard to get parts for and hard to set up.

I was hoping to go the reconditioning route due to age and value of car, can anyone offer any advice or who to use.

Also what cleaning is advised for the air inlet/intercooler pipework, I was thinking of flushing it through with diesel.

Hopefully the bits of impellor haven't made it to the engine.

Cheers Andy,

was thinking of using a water based degreaser like parts washer fluid.

I had a look in the bottom of the intercooler and there's a few bits of impellor in the bottom.

hopefully all the bits were trapped here.

the pipe between the air filter box and the turbo air inlet is full of oil , its like a big U bend hence oil wont drain out.

its actually the air pipe that goes from the air box to the turbo that's full of oil.
when the turbo expired, oil leaked into the air inlet.

Rich, how hard was it to pull the turbo out with the body on? I may have to do this soon...
