Iffing boot hydraulic strut keeps falling off

MY 2012 RRS Boot hydraulic bar keeps falling off at the ball joint where attached to the car. I can push it back in, it's ok for a while then falls back off again it's a blimmin pain to lift the tailgate. I've been quoted £200 for a new hydraulic bar but I think its more the ball joint? Is this common? What do I need to replace? Is it an ebay purchase?? Cheers Laurence.

Very strange, same thing happed to me, same year:

Suggestion is that it's just a retaining clip, I'm waiting to get the car back from the body shop then planning to investigate myself. If you have any joy let me know.

I think these may be the sort of thing you need, but where to obtain them and how you dertermine the size I wouldn't know, as normal L/R only supply complete strut.
