Performance air filters

Is there any gain from fitting a performance air filter on a sdv6 over the standard filter other then not having to replace each year on service ?
Car will also have a remap but just trying to work out if any gains by changing air filters at the same time. 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

That answers my question. It's booked in for remapping and the asked if I would like the air filter upgraded to a free flowing performance filter.
Don't see the point if it's of no benefit! 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

It does flow a marginal amount of extra air, at the expense of bigger particles being allowed into the engine...

It feels like you need to clean and then oil them more frequently than changing paper ones.

A waste of money

Interstingly Alive Tuning sell the ITG replacement filters and do seem to think they are beneficial. I'm not expert enough to comment, just putting it out there that there are other views.

I have always used Pipercross on previous cars,
not added one to the RRS
they are not paper but what I would call sponge material,
lets less through than a K&N but be very careful not to over oil it..

As said a nice clean paper one would be fine.. ===========================================

For highly tuned vehicles, yes, they do need more air in to the engine

For a mapped 2.7/3.0/3.6, then a good quality paper filter is more than sufficient

I’ve seen the turbo compressor impact erosion, when the application has had a free flowing air filter. It’s great for the racing boys who’ve got big budgets to rebuild them. For us everyday joe the cost of a rebuild is normally an inconvenience.
