Hi all I am thinking I need to purchase a diagnostic tool as I have a collection of these vehicles 2011 Range Rover sport/2008discovery3/2004Range Rover vogue/ all with there ongoing issues. Can anyone recommend an affordable tool.
Any ideas would be appreciated

Can't go wrong with an IID tool.....not sure i would call it affordable though

£400 is less than the average repair on a Sport

I’ve got the IID BT from gap and it’s handy for the glove box but I also have the VCM2 and Use JLRs on line SDD which is more complicated and takes a while to set up but as it’s what JLR use it covers nearly everything and cost £140 for the VCM2 and £45 for the genuine online version of SDD (it updates pretty much all the time which can get tedious). 2012 5.0 SC AB

The IID came from Duckworths and VCM came from

There are some VCM2 out there appear cheaper but are actually DaVinas in a VCM2 case (ebays full of them). These can be blue or red and are crap. The site above shows you the board which is correct, the DaVina board is much smaller and with less connections.

Be aware you need to use it JLR SDD as it’s not standalone like the IID tool. 2012 5.0 SC AB

The SDD is the software - which appears to be a minefield as there are lots of 'cracked' or hookey copies being sold online/ebay/etc that won't update or come with support..

Chris - where did you get SDD from? Direct from JLR or is there an authorised reseller? I'm partial to a bit of laptop-based diagnostics too (I'm used to the BMW gear)  2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

It was a JLR download but it can be a PITA! It updates nearly every day and if you don’t turn your computer on for a week it has lots to update involving turning off before moving to the next update. 2012 5.0 SC AB

My diagnostic laptop (still running XP!) doesn't get turned on much, so I'm used to that.. might actually have to invest in a slightly newer laptop, given XP is now (long) out of support - I don't like connecting it to the Interwebs, just in case.

A little googling just got me to download links on Topix - I assume then you just have to register for an account and pay somehow? 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

I have a Blackbox Solutions Faulmate MSV-2 Extreme. It costs around 1,100 Euro.

Just bought an IID BT from Duckworth Land Rover for £429.99, with the VAT off it works out @ £358.32 which is the cheapest there is for this model, and a bargain.

If there is a downside for you, it will be the full monty can only be done on 2 vehicles, however I think, and I may need correcting, you will be able to diagnose on more than 2, just not configure.

Didn't go direct, but via a well known auction site.

There is a link above for the JLR software and outside of that just need to purchase a key? Am I correct?

Also does the software just let you check for faults or does it let you make changes to the car? Enable or disable stuff?
