Guys N Gals, I have a lovely Orkney Grey 2012 3.0 autobiography and have 1 issue I need to bottom out and 1 concern.

- Steering wheel wobble when braking, I have fitted new discs and pads but it still shows its ugly face when braking from about 40mph to a stop, Tyres are even. I think I have very slight play in the rear of the bottom arm bushes but they dont knock.
Could this be a Rack or the bottom arms? or wheel buckle?

- Coolant crossover pipe, I have read this is a weak spot but was superseded on later cars, is this something I should change or is my car late enough to be ok? if not is this a body off job?

I fought with the same issue, it turned out to be a buckled wheel. 2012 SDV6 HSE Lux

So I had the wheel balancing checked, swapped with the rears and the issue is the same..
I fitted Pagid discs a few months ago so im going to try genuine LR discs, There is slight play in rear bushes on bottom arms. bearing seems ok. was thinking to put poly bushes in the rear of bottom arms??
Happy to buy parts that are needed but dont want to go buying bits just to rule them out.

I had similar and it was that the rear brake caliper had seized
so it was grabbing and that was the cause of the wobble
ended up with new discs, pads and parking brake pads.
Oh well all part of the fun! 2013 L320 3.0 TD in grey! sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.

Thats interesting. Ill check the heat on the rear brakes after a run later.

I've had the same issue and mine was a sticky caliper well. Also had an out of shape wheel but that only caused a very slight steering wheel vibration at 50-60 mph. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks, was yours a rear too? if I brake and get the wobble then let off the brake it stops immediately. and doesnt pull at all either direction. I can rule wheels out now. I know there is a slight bit of play in bottom arms so will inevitably change them or upgrade but dont feel they are involved in the wobble. I guess all that's left is the brakes (rear calipers to check) and im paranoid that the front discs are Pagids and not LR, also the wheel bearings to check but no abnormal noises from them.

I think it might have been,, was found by accident if I recall,,,, had asked the handbrake to be cleaned out and adjusted correctly during a service and they found the sticky caliper when taking the discs off. I don't think I would worry about the lack of genuine brake discs,, other options available, I've used borg and beck brake parts many times,, good quality at a good price. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks Gogsy, it was more that I have read over and over since the last few days that only LR discs should be used due to non OE parts warping easy - so thought that could be it,

by way of an update, I have fitted new Polly bushes to the bottom arms up front and new LR bottom ball joints. most of the play has gone, the hydra bushed were well shot but passed the MOT??????

I still get a little bit of wobble like its trying to wobble when braking at about 50mph, noting at lower speeds. Ill put new track rods on as they are cheapish and need wheel alignments doing so will be a catch all,
the wheel bearings seem fine and I dont think its discs so once I have alignments done then it leaves only the wheels to check for straightness and balance.

Did you finally resolve the problem? I have a nasty wobble when I brake from 70 disappears below 50 or at least not noticeable from me. Also I have a vibration at speeds over 60, wheels balanced twice no difference but the vibration comes and goes. Irritating really.

Just wanted to know if the lower arms and track rod ends cured it.

Hi Scotty, After the bottom arms, I went for a 4 wheel alignment and changed the budget tyres that came with the wheels for Pirelli's - all sorted now! so I dont know if it was the tires or the balancing but all cured! however the bushes made the biggest difference, and the tyres made it perfect - if that makes sense.

I didnt change anything else mechanically in the end. However I did buy a set of Polly ARB bushes for all 4 corners so will get them on for fun!
Drives like a new car now!
