Locking rear diff - how do I know whether one is fitted?

If the '4x4 info' page on my 2006 RRS shows a padlock symbol for the rear diff, does that mean there is actually one fitted, or is that just the default, shown whether one is fitted or not?

Its usually green but I'm sure I've seen it go red when playing with various settings.

You could always crawl underneath and have a look at the diff, it will have wires going to a electric motor bolted on the side/top of it if you have, but unlikely I would think as relatively rare and expensive option.

I'll take a shufty...

You would have thought that LR would programme the car as to which options are fitted and that would affect various bits of software, including the 4x4 info page - or is that too sensible?

I suppose displaying as 'unlocked' is appropriate if it is always unlocked.

The rear diff always shows a green padlock on the original RRS unless actually locked, even if no locker is fitted. On the facelifted version, they removed the rear locker logo unless the locker is actually fitted. Which makes sense.

You can see the rear locker motor and wiring through the rear left wheel arch if you lift the suspension and shine a torch in. The locking motor sits on top of the diff with the motor racing the right side of the vehicle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I think they have removed a lot of stuff off topix now for earlier vehicles an no longer tell you much.

My 2012MY doesn’t have the module behind the left side panel in the boot so doesn’t have the locking diff but I’m pretty sure I still have the 2 green padlocks on the 4x4 page. 2012 5.0 SC AB

My 2012 doesn't have the rear locker and doesn't show any lock symbol, green or otherwise, over the rear axle. It's possible there were different versions of the display graphics/software around back then of course. This is Land Rover, after all! All Factory HSTs and G4 cars had them as standard so I believe, was an option on all others, was around £950 for the option at the time so I wouldn’t think many ticked the box 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

I think only the factory HST had the locking rear diff. The dealer supplied HST-kitted versions didn't. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hi,
I suggest going to a pay n play or pvt land and try to get stuck and cross axled Shocked

if you never get the the rear light to turn red and show locked and your good and stuck then doubt you have the rear locker, now that sounds much more fun than hand and knees looking under the car Laughing

just for info on the L494 it always seems to be the rear axle that starts to lock up first, even on a slight muddy incline on Sunday it was showing 1 and 2 sectors locking.

I have the wiring in place but no module or diff so I wonder if the lock symbol is present with those that had the wiring just in case. 2012 5.0 SC AB
