Check your oil there is no low level warning

Afternoon all

It would appear that there is NO low oil level warning on the RR Sport, a friend of mine has lost his SDV6 engine due to insufficient oil and there was no warning given by the car.

So check your oil level regularly. Thumbs Up

bring back the dip stick i say!

i hate these stupid oil check displays....
wait t heat up the engine... then wait 10 minutes after power off so that the system can measure the settled oil level....
no other way to do it.

the new sport must allow the level to read without the engine warmed up so...

2012 model needs engine oil up to temp. 2007 TDV6 RRS HSE..now gone

Surely the low oil pressure light would start to come on as the oil level got down to the level of the pickup. 07MY RRS TDV6

The low pressure oil light should be renamed the “fit a new engine light”. There is no oil level low light in the RRS1, which when there is no dipstick, except the one behind the wheel, is IMHO a major design fault.

Hi,

I’ve posted this before.

You don’t think the Dealers wait 10mins to check the oil during a service do you?

Turn on the ignition, without touching the brake pedal, pull the bonnet release, clear the dash alerts and then read the oil level.

If hot or just stopped the engine, allow for the level to be little off as there will have been little “drain back” to the sump.

Close the bonnet before driving off.

So having the bonnet open allows you to bypass the wait system ?

Doesn’t work on mine, the oil has to be warm and I have to wait 10 mins after engine off or it tells me oil level not available. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Hi,

IIRC on a 2012 you have to press cancel on the cruise control twice for it to work.

So that’s potentially running on low oil for 10 mins until the system tells your low on oil Shocked .

Being a preface lift owner I’m glad for the dipstick. Could you imagine checking the oil seeing it’s low then consciously starting it without a top up = crazy.

Strange, mine checks o.k. whether checked after stopping for 10 mins. or left overnight and checked in morning when cold, don't have to press any cruise control buttons, open bonnet or anything like that. Of course I am assuming it works o.k. but never put any oil in between services and it hasn't gone bang yet. Laughing Could just lift throttle pedal slightly as if pressed at all when checking it will say not available or whatever it says.

Cheers
Col
