Changing a tyre

Got a screw through my tyre last night (see gallery), which was notable for a few reason;

1) It is the 3rd car I have had that I have had a puncture on the left rear tyre in the first 10K km's......freaky

2) I got to test out the toolkit - not too bad, but god help you if your hands are cold or you are weak. LR, love the hatch cover that clicks into place so you don't have to hold it open Thumbs Up

3) The cars traction control got confused when the tyre spun on the rim - kind of interesting when you are halfway across an intersection Shocked

4) If you don't like changing tyres, call LR Roadside Assist. RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Too right! I'd always cut my losses and get LRA on the phone as soon as you know you have a flat. Don't want to ruin your Armani threads having to deal with tools! Wink

Yep, use LRA while you can, after 3 years and it has run out you'll be on your jack jones.

Mind you, I always think it looks a bit naff when you see a bloke who is fully capable of changing a wheel standing there watching the LRA man do it instead, smacks a bit of classism in a way, don't you think?

Anyway, why should I care, I drive a Supercharged, I wouldn't lower myself to swapping wheels, PAH! Very Happy L319 D4 HSE

I had to change a wheel/tyre last year Evil or Very Mad Hadn't had the car that long - tyres were hard to come by & worst of all it was still on my drive 1st thing on a Monday morning...... so felt a little awkward re asking LRA to come out a change it for me .... but would agree if it happened whilst out and about then I would definately contact them ! They are not the easiest to do & with no dis-respect to women I'm sure they would really struggle.

Here is mine nearly done ........

Space saver looks really wierd on the RRS brutus....talk about taking off the work boots and putting on high heels!! Nice lawn MDP!

We get full size spare in Oz, so you can imagine what that is like to haul that out from under the car. To further enhance the experience it was raining and about 10C when I changed mine. The beauty about it is that I took it into LR today (to get the steering vibration checked out) and they will get my flat repaired and put it back underneath for me Very Happy RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Yeah its impossible to get the 20" underneath - so LR fit this cheap affair that limits the Supercharged to a maximum 50mph - considering you could be miles from home and over holidays or weekends thus no way of locating a replacement tyre. [ i have connections in the trade & they couldn't locate one straight away ] it took my dealer 24hrs to get hold of one as well Sad

So you could be left driving on this spare at sloooooooooow speeds Evil or Very Mad

It still weighed a ton - steel wheel & 19"

Think if it ever happens again I would phone LR assist and make sure they came out with a replacement tyre immediately !!!!!!!!

I've got a full sized 20inch spare on mine. It's strange that the 19inch "spacesaver" only weighs a couple of pounds less than the 20inch (5st 6lb), even though it's alloy. The 20inch wheel fits a treat, but you can't put a punctured one under there because it's supposed to sit on the inflated tyre walls. RRS 4.2 S/C. Zermatt. Tints. Stormers. 150+ paint defects, wonkey bonnet, scratches, detached doorseal. suspension faults. To sum it up, a 60k pile of cr4p!

Hhhhhmmm - Ok,

So what were saying here is the 20" is ok complete with tyre to be fitted underneath - but if you get a flat best put this into your boot as it will get no protection from the flat tyre if shoved back underneath - thus damaging your alloy?

And this is the only reason LR don't fit a full size alloy ??????? Confused

The doesnt seem to make much sense because with the 19 you have to put the flat in the trunk. It cant possibly be to cut costs. Maybe to bring it close to a 50/50 weight distribution or so the wheels is not too heavy for someone to remove from underneath?

..............but there's only a few pounds difference in weight. That would easily be offset by putting a bag of shopping in the boot (or the driver loosing a few pounds)!
