Black smoke on acceleration

Hi, I noticed a cloud of smoke when accelerating I have read on this forum and others that this might be a EGR fault. I have a Nanocom and decided to do some running checks and see what the EGR's were doing. The CSV file shows four readings for EGR items, two each for banks 0 & 1. One column of each is marked VLV and one column of each marked COM. I am assuming the COM is the ECU command and the VLV is the actual valve open position, in an ideal world the command and the valve position would be the same? The fifth column marked EGR throttle position I again assume is the ECU command for the butterfly valve in the electronic throttle? All these columns are marked %. So questions, what are they percentages of; position, total air intake, other? Whilst the command and valve position change with either accelerator or revs the EGR throttle position remains the same is this normal?

Something else; I notice from the CSV file the injectors are numbered in different cylinders I assume the injector number is the firing order? Again I am assuming the readings are in some form of pressure? Is it pressure of fuel in the injector or cylinder pressure? As two readings seem to be somewhat higher than the other four what is a reasonable difference. Indeed what is a normal reading for the 2.7 diesel engine.

Any information gratefully received, I have posted this on the Nanocom site
Richard.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

My 2012 does the same and there is a Land Rover Technical Bulletin that suggest a mod to the crankcase breather on certain vehicles with VIN’s between AA212145-DA814376 years 2010 - 2012.

Technical Bulletin LTB00487v6 3.0 TDV6 Excessive Exhaust Smoke.

Black smoke is a boost leak, or too much fuel

Before you get way too far, start wwith the basics. The big turbo hose on the drivers side is very guilty for splitting, causing a lack of power And subsequent black smoke Thumbs Up

Hi, thanks for the prompt replies, my Vin falls outside of the suggested group but I will certainly look at the bulletin. I have checked the hose it looks OK. Would a split hose not cause black smoke every time you accelerate mine has only done it once. I was curious about the readings as a learning process in understanding my car more.

I had black smoke under acceleration and it was that hose/downpipe that was split. Check underneath the hose near the top as mine had split there and wasn't obviously visible.

I was suffering this on my 2.7v6, fitted an EGR blanking kit and no smoke, for £20ish it was a cheap and relatively quick and easy fix.

Since fitting the car is now running smoother, no black smoke and a lot less lag when pulling away plus the added advantage of a couple of MPG increase too.

Might be worth giving it a go. 2006 RRS HSE 2.7 TDV6 (The Baby one as I keep being told)
