L320 7 Year Service

Hi folks

Spoke to the dealer today asking to book in for the 7 year service, and I was surprised when told they need it in for 3 days. I'm aware the body will need lifted as it's a timing belt replacement service, and £1428 (not sure if includes VAT, probably not) cost.

I was expecting the usual rip off cost, but the 3 days is what's bothering me as I'll have to plan this as a sort of mini holiday - is this to be expected or is the dealer taking the usual 'P'?

Thanks 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

I forgot about that online system, I tried booking a couple of years ago online and luckily contacted the dealer who confirmed nothing was booked. But I've just checked online and see that for an hours further drive I can get the same service for £1317 so that's something to at least start negotiations with, so thanks for reminding me of that.

I've been using Parks Inverness but not sure anymore (along with previous advice from another member) as I had a terrain response control issue where the dash lit up like xmas, I had a video of the terrain response selector flashing so pretty much told the dealer where to start looking, I left the RRS with them for more than 2 weeks while at work and they still said they couldn't fix it. I got the RRS home, bought the part and sorted it myself....pretty annoyed as the warranty should have covered this but unfortunately the master technician's (???) incompetence meant I had to pay and fix myself. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Belts are NOT a body off job

The belts and service can easily be done in a single day, and for much less than the figures quoted in any of the above posts...

Thank you for that info. So I wonder why they'd need it in for 3 days then, is this likely to be what LR have on their booking sheet, whereas the job can be done much faster (as is usual)? What sort of timescale should I be looking at for the job? 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Most main dealers should be able to do these prices or better -

Participating UK Retailers only. Exclusions apply

Doesn't include replacement idler bearings on the front belt, nor the HPFP belt, nor the aux belt, which should all be replaced as part of timing belt replacement

That price is purely a front belt + tensioner...

Our local dealer is £1300 for belts alone, service is an additional cost...

Had my belt service done recently and it was less than a grand in total. Included service, belts and tensioner. Was just a standard drop it in the morning and pick it up EOD. Loan car provided.

That was an Indy in Oxfordshire.

Why do people use main dealers? Shocked 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

As the service is only due in April I'd forgot all about this till a few days ago, but I've emailed the dealer to ask what gets done and I got sent this breakdown list which includes the hours. So as it says 6 hours, I have no idea why they want it in for 3 days? All I can think is maybe one of their mechanics needs a good engine and needs time to do a swap...... Laughing

Unless I've missed something then it appears the timing and fuel pump belts and idlers are covered, I'd need to ask for the auxiliary belt and tensioners to be done as an extra or is this not needed?

And the price included VAT so while it's still a lot, it's better than +VAT.

Isn't that £720 + VAT for labour alone? Shocked

It's about £470 in parts, that leaves £250 for 5 hours labour, in a main dealer Laughing

But, £1190 + VAT is (near enough) your initial quote of £1428

Beg's the question, why not have a day out in Dundee. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

I'd love to go to Dundee, but I tried in July 2017....thought I was getting booked in for ARB bush replacements and a gearbox flush, but then when asking about doing the Alive remap and some other stuff I never got replies to my PM's.

I would love to find an independent I could use, but with where I live I need to know when I book that when I travel there I can get the work done. Anywhere north of the central belt would do as a few hours travel is nothing when I've done the expense of ferry and hotels anyway. I'm not really that impressed with Parks LR Inverness, but it's convenient and I get my RRS and wife's Evoque's books stamped..... 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

With regards to my previous PM about needing my ARB bushes done, I'd forgot to follow up once I got home from working abroad

Our workshop lead times are generally 3-4 weeks in advance, not 3-4 days, as from your PM on the 6th July

Without a confirmed booking, we don't leave any spare space in our diary due to our workload, both work booked in and breakdowns

In this case, I can only assume a communication issue on my part, and I can only apologise for that
