Service 4.2 supercharged

Hi , just got myself RRS Supercharged and absolutely love it and only 86k on it Mr. Green I'm thinking of doing service on it so question is what exact oil goes into engine/gearbox , can't find anything on here as most posts are about diesel engines ...

Another question is if my gearbox runs sweet do I change oil in it now or do I leave it ? Don't mind spending a lil more money but I thought I'll ask on here what people usually do

Someone told me there is oil in supercharger and again do we change that or is it supposed to last life time ?? Question

And last question about timing , is it supposed to be replaced after some milage ? I know it's on chains but do they tend to stretch what about tensioners and runners ?? It's only 86k so I should imagine there is few more miles before comes to that

Sorry for all these questions but hard to find decent information online , guess there isn't that many supercharged ones out there , hopefully this will be helpful for someone else as well

Thanks Bow down

Yes, would be wise to change the gearbox oil.
The transfer box oil should also be changed at about 75K
Yes you could splash out and change the SC oil. Yes it is meant to be sealed for life, but if you intend to keep it a long time, change it.

Chain tensioners can be probalamatic. Maybe change next year.

He is correct.
At your mileage you could just not bother changing the filter.
It’s not really worth it. There is a drain plug.

Look on eBay for SC oil.
If you can’t see it for range rover
Look for jaguar xjr for examples

Hello again

So car is on 95k miles now and started sound a bit different in the morning when first started up , sounds like chain tensioner , don't last long but obviously I rather act now before it gets worse, it's had engine oil change when I got it so 6k miles ago

My question is should I replace all chains , tensioners and guides or just the two top tensioners for a start and see what happens

I know sounds mad but I'm just thinking one of them might be faulty and seems that you can replace them without stripping whole engine ???

Can't find much info online as these engines don't seem to suffer with timing problems

Thanks for help

These suffer with noisy supercharger front pulley bearing but that sounds more like a clunk to be honest goes when reved but there when idling usually Thumbs Up

The spring in the isolators have been known to fail and the isolator wear so the take up is not absorbed and makes a noise, but I I think that is more of a "clicking" noise.

Noise seem to go away when reving up then soon as it drops down to idle comes back , thats why I thought of cam tensioners but not sure , it's not super loud or anything but its there every morning ..

I'm starting to worry if it's been serviced with the right engine oil up to spec , need to do some digging tomorrow

Yeah that’s the one I meant but mine was a bit more than a clicking noise maybe not a clunk but more than a click I still have the bearing and the oil I bought them but never got round to changing them as I sold the car it’s the genuine bearing if your going to buy them I can sell you the oil and bearing as it’s sitting in my garage Thumbs Up
