Gearbox flushed yesterday

A few weeks ago DrRob put up a post for anyone wanting a gearbox flush by Bodsy. I was toying with the idea of a flush over a filter change just as preventative maintenance and the opportunity presented itself so I signed up. Rob co-ordinated the arrival times and the work was carried out on his driveway. During the day there were 2 x 8 speed fullfat RRs’, 2 x 6 speed Discos and me. Bodsy & Rob were very organised chaps which made the day go very smoothly, but still taking the effort to do the work. My car is now 13 years old & on 61k with no gearbox issues. Whilst watching and chatting the day away with the other forum members we looked at the colour of the oil that had been dropped. Andy’s Disco was the dirtiest (he thought) having a 08 car with 150k as a daily driver. I managed to trump that!. The lowest mileage car of the day but the oldest was err black. I’m so glad I had it done with no regrets and a piece of mind for something mostly overlooked. The drive home was sublime in that you could not feel any of the gear changes, only a different engine tone and the Rev counter indicated a change.

If you’re thinking about it, get it done. A couple of photo’s from the day and thanks to Rob & Bodsy for the day.

Rob had purchased those drive on ramps for £100 for the four and they were great and surprisingly light.

Oh yeah. I just pootle along nowadays and I’m mechanically sympathetic when everything is cold. But yes I did notice a vast improvement and I would have said it was seemless before the change!. Now the missus will be asleep even sooner Whistle

I don't mind driving distance to do something like this and any excuse I can find to go out in the new girl, then sounds good to me.

Thanks for the feedback Steve/Rob. I did say I fully expected you to feel a difference Steve Laughing Thumbs Up

The thing with these excellent gearboxes, is that they are soooo good at adapting to compensate for wear and oil condition and all sorts of driving conditions, it means that when the oil isn’t changed, you just think it’s as smooth as it’s ever been. But after the gearbox has been flushed, it’s using nice slippery oil, not 10 litres of Guinness! So will run smoother and seem more gentle. It’s just the oil doing its’ job! Thumbs Up
