RRS P400e / 10 Month / P525 on order to replace...

I think a few know me from my former SDV6 Hybrid and actual P400e Plug-in-Hybrid, as a new technology fan.

As I am on the other hand also a car guy, both worlds colliding here for me.

Shortly, I change my P400e into a P525...

Why:
The P400e is a great car and does everything exactly as it should. But it stresses me with an engine sound that’s for my ears (and wife’s) unacceptably at highways and longer distances at higher speeds.
Also the short electric range is not perfect for my use, I am always stressed to find locations to plug in.

So my wait for the next generation RRS Hybrid will be comfy, with the last new V8 I get in my life (relatively sure)...
It arrives in August. Can’t wait for it.

That’s why you get the Meridian surround sound system for free. Just turn the music up a few notches. 😀
I hired a diesel RRS for the day as the dealer would only give me a 30 mins rest drive in the P400E. I thought the diesel clattered a bit at idle, but was quite smooth up through the gears. I tend to play my music at a reasonably high volume, so I tend not to notice engine noise. It might just be me, but I think the engine in my X5 sounds smoother than the RRS oil burner.
I am assuming you don’t like the sound at full throttle fir overtaking etc, as the P400E I test drove was quite quiet cruising at 70mph. My P400E is due in September.

Exactly, the P400e is a great cruiser, but not made for the Autobahn.
And, if the electric range is left, it leaves you with an not enough dimmed 4 Zylinder engine. 2012 RRS HSE SDV6, BOURNVILLE 12/12-10/14

Hello Renaco

Interesting switch.. a turnaround to the "hype" of hybrid, electric etc.
I suppose that the V8 is a really interesting engine in the RRS Wink

@Cunny678
Which model year is the X5? I had a 2009 E60 530d, and the RRS (SDV6 MY16, 306hp) is a LOT quieter... I am really surprised how quiete such a large vehicle can be... Range Rover Sport HST D350

Hi Harrison

First, the V8 5.0 was the last thing in my mind for a new RRS, especially as I own since 21 Years a RRC 3.5 V8 from 1973 as a Weekend, Summer Classic car.
But the 4 Zyl P400e drivetrain made the gap of feeling good once driving so big, it felt just wrong to me to miss in my daily ride the smooth silky engine I have on my 46 year old RRC.

I will return to electric, once it’s lightweight, maybe fuel cell and out of the beta test... 2012 RRS HSE SDV6, BOURNVILLE 12/12-10/14

It’s a 65 plate single turbo engine. Maybe the later model has better insulation.
