Low Speed Front End Vibration When Under Deacceleration

Hi, does anyone have any experience of this problem or can point me in the right direction to resolve it?

When slowing down for a roundabout or when stopping at traffic lights I get a vibration through the front end of the car. It occurs from about 20mph when under deacceleration until the car comes to a stop. I get the same vibration when both coasting below 20mph or when braking below 20mph.

There is no vibration under acceleration at any speed, or when driving at any constant speed or when braking above 20mph.

The car is a 5.5 year old RRS L320 with 8 speed auto box, it has done 47K miles with full service history.

Any suggestions would be most welcome Thumbs Up

Steve

Front differential. Drain the lubricant and if it is black and many metallic particles on the magnetic drain plug - there's your problem.
It is a known issue. Another serous manufacturing fault which JLR acknowledges but fails to compensate owners in accordance with their usual arrogant MO. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks for the reply Paddi Thumbs Up

The car is still under the LR 2 year used vehicle warranty so I have booked it into my local LR Main Dealer for investigation.

I mentioned the vibration when the car was last serviced by the LR Main Dealer but their response was that they could not find any vibration. When I insisted that there was a front end vibration their response was "oh, they all do that"!!

The vibration is getting worse now so I think that I will need to be more robust and insist that something is done about it

I will let you know how I get on Thumbs Up

Video it. Send it them.
Drop car off and say I don't want it back until fixed. Be polite but firm

Can you also get their diagnosis in writing with a signature. That way off fails outside of your warranty, you can pass the blame back to them. Not sure how it would stand legally but it’s still another piece of ammunition. 2012 5.0 SC AB

The diff problem on reflection, should not apply to your vehicle as it only affected earlier models.
Reading your post again I'm inclined to think it's not the diff because when mine went it was more obvious the higher the speed I was slowing down from.
Yours sounds more like a brake or other driveline problem but have the diff oil checked anyway. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks for all the helpful advice guys Thumbs Up

I have reported the problem to my LR Main Dealer as a diff issue, so if they come back and say the diff is all good I will ask them to look at the rest of the drivetrain including drive shafts, bearings, and possibly the torque converter. I don't think it is a brake issue as the vibration occurs when not braking.

Does anyone think that a gearbox mega-flush may help?

Good idea to video the vibration and get a record of their investigations, as my warranty ends in June 19. If anything big fails just outside the warranty I may get some assistance from LR on a goodwill gesture...…..but won't hold my breath on that one Sad

Forums are great for this sort of help and advice Bow down

I wouldn't rule out the brakes, especially if you've had them replaced recently or if they were aftermarket. If a disk is warped and the pads drag on the high point, it can cause a vibration which gets worse when you brake but can disappear at speed. Ive had this issue a number of times with cheap disks. Mintex being terrible for it. If you have a DTI you can check for run out quite quickly and easily. 2012 5.0 SC AB
